Christmas Playlist Party

Advent is upon us and only 22 more shopping days until Christmas! But, after my Black Friday experience I’m determined to choose a different way this month and focus on keeping Jesus at the center of my preparations. I’m excited to see what wonders lie ahead in the coming weeks.

To kick off the season I’m going to jump in (late as usual) to a festive “gathering” Kristen, the cupcake-in-chief at Exemplify Online, is hosting— a Christmas Playlist Link Up. What fun! We love Christmas music in our house and have lots (and lots) of CDs that we play continually all through December. I’m not sure I’ll be able to narrow my favorites for a playlist, but I’ll give it a try.

From sacred to silly…majestic to mirthful…regal to rockin’…and in no particular order, here they are:
  • Silent Night by sung by any choir at a Christmas Eve candlelight service.
  • O Holy Night by Luciano Pavoratti
  • Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses
  • Santa Claus is Coming to Town by Bruce Springsteen
  • Hark! The Herald Angels Sing by Manheim Steamroller (Fresh Aire Christmas)
  • A Baby Just Like You by John Denver and the Muppets (A Christmas Together)
  • (Everybody's Waitin’ For) The Man with the Bag by The Brian Setzer Orchestra (Boogie Woogie Christmas)
  • White Christmas by Raul Malo (Marshmallow World and other Holiday Favorites)
  • Bells of Dublin/Christmas Eve by The Chieftains (The Bells of Dublin)
  • Christmastime is Here (Vocal) by Vince Guaraldi Trio (A Charlie Brown Christmas)
  • Walking in the Air from The Snowman soundtrack
  • Miss Fogerty’s Christmas Cake by Mick Moloney and Eugene O’Donnell
  • Mele Kalikimaka by Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters (Merry Christmas)
  • River by Robert Downey Jr. (Ally McBeal: A Very Ally Christmas)
  • Carol of the Bells by The Choir of Trinity Church (Candlelight Carols)
  • I Pray on Christmas by Blind Boys of Alabama (Go Tell it on the Mountain
  • Run Rudolph Run by Tommy Conwell (A Live Christmas Extravaganza)
  • Someday at Christmas by Stevie Wonder (Someday at Christmas)
Whew! I could go on…and on, but I’ll stop here. Most of these songs are from our favorite Christmas CDs—which I now can’t wait to start playing tomorrow. Hope you discover a new favorite to add to your list.

Merry Christmas and happy listening!

I love The Chieftains. Have most of their albums! I rarely find people who listen to them too. Though, coming from an Irish family it is the norm for me!

You have an awesome playlist here, Kelli. So diverse. I love it!

Dear Kelli....
What a list and after spending our ride on 95 yesterday, your music tastes are great!!!
I liked watching you and Christine having so much fun with the songs that were playing.
As far as Christmas songs go, there are no bad ones, love them all.
Have a blessed day, thanks for your friendship.
Blessings and Love....Peggy

We only have a few cds, I mostly hear Christmas music on the radio. Christmas shoes is one of my favorites of the modern day ones.

Loved your list Kelli. I too went out on Black Friday for the sake of my son Ryan. He was amazed. Hopefully he does not want to do it again next year.

How can you forget "The 8 Polish Foods of Christmas" from a Veggie Tales CD A Very Veggie Christmas! : ) I love O Holy Night by Barlow Girl as well as the classic version. What an amazing song! Thanks for the list.

There's a few on there that I don't know, but I love all the old classic carols!

And let's not forget: Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer!

Thanks for reminding me of some old greats I'd long forgotten.

Kelli was able to keep me from adding this one last night when she compiled this list...but, she can't stop me from commenting, and I can remain silent no longer.

Christmas in Hollis by Run D.M.C. (from A Very Special Christmas).

Word up!

Oh Dan, you are not to be suppressed. I think it's about time you step out from the comments and write a post of your own!

My husband and I were just singing "Christmas is Coming" from the John Denver and the Muppets album. My real favorite from there is "The Peace Carol."

We have 3 "Very Special Christmas" disks, and I can't say that I'm most fond of any of them anymore.

My longtime favorite disk is David Benoit's Christmastime. Had my family buy me the James Taylor Hallmark album 2 or 3 years ago. Shawn Colvin has an amazing Christmas/lullaby album. And, the Casting Crowns' disk is really great listening, too.

Most fun?! BEATMAS. It's Christmas songs set to the tunes of the Beatles. Worth a look-up!

You know what one of my favorite things about grocery shopping is right now?
Singing along with the Christmas songs that are playing! I try to ignore the looks I get from other shoppers. *grin*
And I love Santa Claus is Coming to Town by Bruce Springsteen, too.

My favorite Christmas song is
This Christmas by Donny Hathaway. Until I hear this on the radio, it just isn't Christmas yet. It reminds me of the days at home as a kid, with my sister and brother and Mom and all the things she did for us to make the holiday wonderful.

I like so many different Christmas songs, traditional as well as contempory. However, becoming a Christian hasn't made me change my mind about one of my favorites -
Father Christmas by the Kinks. Of course this is coming from a guy that considers "Die Hard" to be a Christmas movie.
Merry Christmas to Everybody!
